DISNEY DREAM SETS SAIL!!

Watch as the Disney Dream is christened!!

The Magic, The Memories & You

Recently, Disney premiered their new “Magic, Memories, and You!” show on Cinderella Castle. That’s right, it takes place ON the castle. That is, the entire show is projected onto the castle’s surface.

Months ago, Disney digitally mapped the nooks and crannies of the famous Cinderella Castle to produce this new nightly show that makes each and every castle “brick” come alive with movement, color, and character, all to the tune of peppy music. And as part of Disney’s new Let the Memories Begin campaign, the new show features 500 pictures taken of Disney guests using PhotoPass throughout each day.

It can best described as hyper-real kinetic entertainment. While it’s entirely a 2-dimensional show, there are many occasions when items (bricks, springs, balloons) seem to burst out from the castle, though nothing is actually moving. It’s all an impressive trick that must be seen in person to appreciate.

But… if you can’t make it to the Magic Kingdom any time soon, here is a video of “Magic, Memories, and You!”

SPACE MOUNTAIN MUSIC

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share some cool news!!! Space Mountain in Florida now has MUSIC!! It is not speakers in the ride vehicle itself, but speakers along the track. It's spacey music not rock and roll like Rockin' Rollercoaster. Check out a clip of someone taping the audio on the ride here.
I think Uncle Ted and I will be the next people in Disneyworld in January for the marathon so we'll have to tell you all about it!!

Hey everyone,

Did you read my Twitter post on Tuesday? Uncle Shawn has signed up to run the Disney Marathon next January but Disney had some exciting news recently. Next year, all marathon runners will be getting a free day in the park the day after the run. They are calling it "Marathon Monday." We were planning on going into the park the day of the run (Sunday) as well as Monday. Now that day is FREE!! This is a first in the 17 years of the Disney runs. Very cool!

The next exciting news is about the Mickey medal that you get when you finish the marathon. This is a photo of the one given out this past year. Uncle Shawn got the Donald since he ran the half marathon this year.

Well, next year, they are asking ANYONE to vote for the medal they think the marathon runners should get. THAT MEANS YOU!!!!!!!!!

I want all of you to go the thewebsite link below and vote for your favorite medal that you think Uncle Shawn should get. Let us know which one you chose by posting a comment below. Uncle Shawn has his favorite but will let you know later.

IT'S COMING BACK!!!

Big news…we’re thrilled to announce that one of the most beloved attractions in Disney history, the Main Street Electrical Parade, is returning to Magic Kingdom this summer – and it’ll be better than ever. The classic parade will feature new LED lights and new audio technology when it begins its limited engagement at Walt Disney World in early June 2010.
I know we all loved this parade when we were kids. Mr. Ted and Uncle Shawn saw a glimpse of it in California where it has been the past few years. So happy to see it return!!

Tinker Bell will lead the parade waving from the basket of a magical balloon aboard a new float. The parade’s return is part of Summer Nightastic! — an amazing lineup of new and enhanced entertainment planned this summer at Walt Disney World theme parks. For example, there will be new lighting effects and a new addition to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Also, Magic Kingdom will treat guests to a special summer fireworks spectacular.

I bet Josh and Ethan are so excited to go this summer!!!!!!!!!!!

SPACE MOUNTAIN NEWS

Hey everyone,
Space Mountain has been closed for months getting refurbished. Sounds like they did not change the ride but the line to get in has changed. Now you can play video games while you wait. Read this report that someone posted recently at a Disney site. Enjoy. Can't wait to ride it in January!!

When renovation work finishes on the Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World Resort, it’ll be the same classic experience with a few new surprises. And now, Walt Disney Imagineering is offering an early peek at some of those surprises and the first images from inside the attraction. As you know, with any Imagineering project, the story comes first. And the updated Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World Resort is no exception. With the update, the storyline is being extended – and you’ll be able to take part.

Passengers will be able to immerse themselves in unique game play as they prepare for blast off, becoming part of the space station adventure. During a recent walkthrough, we deflected asteroids to keep runways clear as part of the story.

The interactive experiences are based on duties you’d find on board a long-traveling space craft, according to Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Show Designer Alex Wright. Each game lasts about 90 seconds with a 90-second interval and the games can accommodate 86 players at one time.

As you move along on your journey, there are “insider” touches typical in projects created by Imagineers. For example, if you’re up on your Disney trivia, you’ll recognize a sign bearing the logo “H-NCH 1975″ as a tribute to late Imagineer and Disney legend John Hench. There are also other “Disneyphile” references hidden throughout the attraction.

Space Mountain celebrates the Golden Age of Rocket Travel – inspired by the jet age of the early 1960s. The attraction highlights excitement around the endless possibilities regarding space travel. It did back when it opened in 1975 and I think you’ll agree it still does.

DISNEY'S AQUA DUCK

Hey everyone,

In an earlier post, we showed you all the cool, new stuff on Disney's newest cruise ship, the Disney Dream. Well, check out this video of the water ride on the ship. Looks awesome!!

Here are some fun facts about the AquaDuck:
  • The AquaDuck stretches 765 feet in length – more than two and a half times the length of a football field – and spans four decks in height.

  • Guests slide 13 feet over the side of the ship in a translucent “swing out” loop allowing them to look down on the ocean 150 feet below.

  • Guests experience coaster-like thrills as high-powered water jets push them upwards and forwards at 20 feet per second.

Cowabunga dude!!! Check out the video below for a VIRTUAL RIDE!!!!

DISNEY DREAM GETTING READY TO SET SAIL

Hey everyone,

Check out the new Disney Dream cruise ship. The Disney Dream is full of cruise industry firsts, including the first-ever shipboard water coaster! Guests will have the opportunity to get swept away on a high-speed flume ride with twists, turns, drops, acceleration and river rapids – all while traversing the upper decks of the ship.

Another cool feature of the Disney Dream can be found in all inside staterooms – a Virtual Porthole! These provide a real-time view outside of the ship via a live, high-def feed. The best part is a special Disney touch. You may glimpse animated characters such as Mickey Mouse or Peach (the starfish from Disney Pixar’s “Finding Nemo”) as they pop by your Virtual Porthole.

The Disney Dream is also brimming with all the features that set Disney Cruise Line apart… enchanting areas for kids where Disney stories come to life, delightful dining experiences for the whole family, sophisticated and trendy adult nightlife and exclusive clubs for teens and tweens.

Check this video out to see what's in store. Hope you all get a chance someday to experience the magic of the Dream.

Love,
Uncle Shawn & Uncle Ted
