MGM STUDIOS NAME CHANGE

Hey everyone,

Not sure if some of you knew this already but next year, MGM studios will get a new name. The park will soon be called Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s what Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World, had to say about the reasons behind the change…

“The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer — in music, television, movies and theater,” she said.

"Framed by the park’s supporting cast of classic Hollywood architecture are shows and attractions straight from contemporary Hollywood, such as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, “Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show” and many more. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also the place to meet favorite character stars of today including Lightning McQueen and Mater from Disney-Pixar’s “Cars,” Power Rangers and Little Einsteins."

The name change will go into effect January 2008.

But some believe that “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” is just an interim name. That this new name will only remain in place until the Imagineers have effectively replaced all of the studio theme park’s soundstages & production facilities with new rides, shows and attraction. At that point — when “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” can no longer be called a working studio — the name of WDW’s 3rd theme park will change one last time to “Disney’s Hollywood.”

For better or for worse, the original plan of a working studio is over. Continuing to call it a “studio” is confusing and opens every new attraction for criticism of not fitting into that theme. The rumored Disney-Pixar Studios name was only more confusing but "Disney’s Hollywood" solves the issue entirely.
